Why I Watch You Sleep

Why I watch you while you sleep:

You've grown so much in these last 4 years. Oops! You'll be 5 years old in just a few more days. Has it been that long already? Where did the time go?

The house is quiet now. Your little footsteps, the sound of your "intellectual" conversation and your little bursts of laughter are only faint memories until you explode on the scene again in the morning in all your glory.

I've got a few secrets to share with you. I allow you to pronounce some of your words incorrectly. It's my little way of keeping you my baby just a little while longer. I should tell you that it's not fafing, it's faking. I should tell you it's not burk, it's burp. Don't you worry. I'll tell you sooner or later. It's just my way of holding on to what I know will end way to soon - your childhood years.

The public displays of affection are drifting away as fast as these last few years have. I can caress your cheeks and kiss you as much as I want right now. Your miles away - dreaming of all the sweet little things boys dream of.

I hold you close and whisper I love you.

You are my world.

You are my hope for the future.

You are my Son.

Thank you for this. It is exactly how I feel. I even videotaped my kids sleeping to keep that sweetness on record. Beautiful sentiments, so sweetly said.
